Graduating from Glasgow School of Art's Mackintosh School of Architecture, James won a number of awards and competitions, including the Scottish Universities collaborative design competition 'Interact'. During his thesis year he exhibited work at the RIBA's Urban Futures Exhibition in London. He completed a Master of Laws at Glasgow's Graduate Law School, focusing on construction law, procurement and dispute resolution, gaining membership to the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
James started his professional career with Grimshaw and Make architects in London before joining Aedas (Now AHR), working on education, workplace and urban residential projects in the UK and abroad. As a member of the Design Focus Group, he travelled between offices attending sector key workshops and focus groups aiming to deliver best practice in design, BIM and project delivery. During this time he worked as project architect with Rafael Vinoly on City Football Academy, a youth development and first team training facility for Manchester City Football Club.
James is an RIBA Professional Examiner and RIBA Student Mentor. He is a keen designer and interested in the value of collaborative working, having spent time in co-located project offices.
