Integration of new buildings into an existing village to create a fully integrated town, where regional heritage and traditions inform the regeneration of an authentic site-specific townscape

A mixed-use development will support a self-sustaining economy:

Permanent residences, apartments, self-catering accommodation, private villas and holiday houses

Retail and banking facilities, bike/trek hire outlets, medical and dental facilities, offices, library, municipal offices, schools, crèches

Interconnected ‘speciality’ quarters: traditional cafe bars, cheese, bread and wine making, olive produce tasting, art atelier with galleries, art shop and art cafe

Existing dispersed buildings linked by a network of streets and piazzas, each with individual character and a vista to the mountains or sea, the church or existing civic buildings

A series of pedestrian priority ‘character areas’: civic piazza, church square, living streets, culinary courts, gateway street, artisan workshops and heritage courtyard

Existing structures such as the former prison complex, the Director’s House and attendant grounds and the former cheese making building restored and enhanced

The creation of an attractive pedestrian route through the olive groves across the river to the north

Attractive villas set into natural woodland with terraced private gardens and spectacular views to the sea
