Fast-track Critical Care Unit in Limerick
An extremely ambitious 14-week design and construction programme was successfully realised on July 3rd with the completion of a new 24-bed Critical Care unit for the HSE at University Hospital Limerick. Reddy A+U worked as architects to Clancy Construction on this urgent project to provide extra capacity to serve people needing hospital care as a result of COVID-19.
Carried out under emergency legislation, the project required considerable innovation in the approach to all aspects of the project (from design through to construction) to achieve completion in a fast-track time period that would in normal circumstances take at least 18 months. The Reddy A+U team embraced progressive work practices, including 3D modelling and online collaboration for meetings and information-sharing, in order to meet the aggressive timelines, all while working from home in adherence to social-distancing requirements.
