Planning Decision for Hotel on Leisureplex Site, Cork
Reddy Architecture + Urbanism has successfully obtained a decision to grant planning permission for this 171 bed 4-star Hotel on the site of the former Leisureplex in Cork. The site was the location of the former Coliseum Cinema built in 1913 and the Postal Sorting Office built in 1940. These were later gutted and combined to form the Leisureplex bowling alley in the 1980s.
Reddy A+U worked with the client and city to create a scheme that reinvigorates this pivotal site at the junction of MacCurtain St, Brian Boru St, Lower Glanmire Road, and Summerhill.
Following on from Reddy A+U’s successful planning application in 2018, for the upgrade and a new second hotel at the Metropole site on MacCurtain Street, the office has designed this new hotel which will contribute greatly to the ever burgeoning urban redevelopment of this part of Cork City, now known as the Victorian Quarter.
