Horgans Quay, Cork
The Cork office of Reddy A+U were commissioned to develop the Residential Quarter of the €160 million Horgan’s Quay urban design and regeneration development in Cork. Working with Clarendon Properties and BAM Ireland, Reddy A+U designed the 216 apartment brick clad residential scheme drawing on the groups extensive experience to deliver the 11 storey buildings.
The overall development will provide 230 apartments, a 136-bed hotel, 37,000 sq m of offices and new retail, restaurant and leisure uses. It also provides 4,000 sq m of new public space adjoining the river Lee and forming a new approach to the city’s main railway station.
Reddy A+U designed the Residential Quarter element of the scheme, creating a brick-clad high-quality apartment development ranging in height from seven to eleven storeys and providing for retail and commercial uses at ground floor level.
The development consists of a series of blocks arranged in a sinuous form around a west facing garden deck and includes the conservation of the old Stationmaster’s Building which is re-purposed for community and leisure facilities. The Stationmasters Building is the main visitor access to the development and is approached from Railway Street by means of a formal garden space.
The apartment blocks address a series of public plaza spaces at ground level with retail units providing services to the residents and office workers and also vital active street frontage to the public realm.
