Leisureplex Site Hotel, Cork

Reddy Architecture + Urbanism are architects for a proposed new 171-bed, 4-star, hotel on the site of the former Leisureplex complex in Cork City.

The site was the location of the former Coliseum Cinema built in 1913 and the Postal Sorting Office built in 1940. These were both later gutted and combined to form the Leisureplex bowling alley in the 1980s.

A decision to grant planning permission for the new hotel was successfully obtained in November 2020.

Reddy A+U has worked with the client and city to create a scheme that reinvigorates this pivotal site at the junction of MacCurtain St, Brian Boru St, Lower Glanmire Road, and Summerhill.

This project follows on from a separate successful planning application by Reddy A+U in 2018 for a major upgrade and a new second hotel at the Metropole Hotel site on MacCurtain Street.

The design of this new hotel on the Leisureplex site will contribute greatly to the ever-burgeoning urban redevelopment of this part of Cork City, now known as the Victorian Quarter.
