Scoil Nicolais, Grange, Co. Cork

Reddy A+U were commissioned to revisit and extend one of our previous successful projects. The sizeable extension was to create an additional sixteen classrooms and enlarged general purpose hall plus related ancillary accommodation. This is to form a key part of the school and creates the central hub.

The scheme provided alterations and additions to an existing co-educational primary school located in the suburban area of Frankfield near Grange, County Cork. The project required careful management through construction stage to facilitate the ongoing use of the existing school.

Completed in 2014, the project benefited from provision made in the original project completed ten years earlier. This included use of light-weight construction along one external wall of the GP hall to allow it to be removed without structural complication, allowing the hall to be subsequently doubled in size.

The design overcame site restriction issues related to substantial falls in levels and constricted points of access.
