Horgan’s Quay: notification of decision to grant permission

Cork City Council has issued a notification of decision to grant permission for the €160 million urban renewal development at Horgan’s Quay in Cork’s by Clarendon Properties and BAM Ireland.

Reddy Architecture + Urbanism designed the residential element of the scheme, creating a brickclad high-quality design in four blocks, ranging in height from seven to eleven storeys and providing for retail and commercial uses at ground floor level.

The €160 million ‘HQ’ development will provide 230 apartments, a 136-bed hotel, 37,000 m2 of offices and new retail, restaurant and leisure uses. It also provides 4,000 m2 of new public space adjoining the river Lee and forming a new approach to the city’s main railway station.

It is noteworthy that none of the conditions of the proposed permission refer to the architectural design, materials, scale, height or bulk of the pro-posed buildings, the result of a positive interaction with Cork City Council planners and architects in the pre-planning stage.
