Irish Cities in Crisis
Irish Cities in Crisis is the most comprehensive exploration of Irish cities to date.
Launched on 22nd October 2024, the book highlights the urgent need for transformative urban planning in Irish cities, advocating for design-focused and sustainable urban policies. It critiques current planning practices, calling for social and environmental responsibility to combat housing, infrastructure, and community issues. The book argues for a vision where cities are built with care and creativity to foster livability and resilience for future generations.
Edited by Jim Coady FRIAI of COADY Architects, David Browne FRIAI of RKD, and Dr. Carole Pollard FRIAI, this 678-page book is published by the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland (RIAI). Featuring contributions from 29 experts, it includes case studies and examples from successful European cities.
While Irish Cities in Crisis highlights existing challenges, it also proposes practical solutions and initiatives to address them. The book advocates for collaboration among civil society and government bodies at local, regional, and national levels to drive meaningful change.
Great cities and towns form the foundation of our future, and this book aims to serve as a valuable guide for progress.
