Kells Eureka School, Co. Meath
and Tyndall College + ETB Schools, Co. Carlow
- Location Kells, Carlow, Bray and Wexford
- Client Inspired Spaces / National Development Finance Agency
The Challenge
Reddy A+U provided technical advisory services to Inspired Spaces and the NDFA for these schools as part of Schools Bundle 5 scheme. This included designing and acquiring planning permission for all facilities. The project included a total of 6 schools on four sites in Kells, Carlow, Bray and Wexford. An IFE College was included on the Carlow site and a primary school on the Bray Site. All other schools are post-primary.
The Story
Colaiste Ráithín + St. Philomena’s are located on site overlooking the former golf course, which has been developed as a new residential community. Site levels dictated that the schools would be co-located with a new access road to unlock the lands potential.
Tyndall College + the ETB School occupy a quite compact site area, and as such this drove an approach on density which extended the College to three storey’s and necessitated a sharing approach to the multipurpose hall and sports fields between the school and college.
Eureka Secondary School in Kells is arranged to make best use of the views and landscape arrangement of the site, with wayfinding and colour used in the external cladding to promote the school as a set of learning and play in the area.
Loreto Post Primary School is a three and part two storey building with a PE hall, external service area, stores, play courts, and playing pitches. A new access road from Duncannon Road Roundabout was introduced along with dedicated pedestrian and cycling routes.
The Outcome
All the projects ran concurrently from preliminary design to planning stage, including securing a fire safety certificate and disability access certificate in a tight programme.
