The Story

With a focus on providing amenity for students, the space offers expansive seating and study areas alongside clearly defined interaction zones. A key focus was achieving a balance between small social spaces and larger community areas, ensuring both flexibility and functionality.

To support the high student capacity and diverse activities, a carefully planned acoustic solution was implemented for the central atrium and cellular pods, seamlessly managing noise from multiple concurrent activities.

The Challenge

To design an inclusive and considerate space, sensitive to the wider cultural and socio-economic backgrounds of its user. There are 12 different social and study seating arrangements which accommodate a variety of personal preferences as well as mobility and neurodiversity needs.

The design exceeds compliance standards by incorporating level, accessible floor finishes, wheelchair-friendly food and reception counters with appropriate heights and knee recesses, high LRV (Light Reflectance Value) contrasts, and braille wayfinding for enhanced accessibility.

The Outcome

A high quality student amenity with a variety of study, dining and breakout areas, including bookable spaces, which is accessible to the university’s large student population.
