UCD Phase 1, Student Housing

UCD’s Student Residences Masterplan Phase 1 for 924 new bedspaces and the Student Hub (UCD Village) forms a cohesive arrangement that links the main campus and its living precinct through a series of interconnected landscaped pedestrian walkways and transport routes.

UCD sought a masterplan for student residences to increase on campus bedspaces to 5,000 and to knit the various existing residential clusters into a cohesive community for a connected student experience. UCD was granted permission for 2,178 residences and the Student Hub UCD Village, a scheme which strategically links the Main Campus to this new development through a series of interconnected landscaped pedestrian walkways and transport routes.

Phase 1 of the UCD Student Residences was completed in September 2021 and represents the first stage of the masterplan, consisting of 914 Student Bedspaces accommodated in 2 Blocks totaling approx. 25,000 sqm over 5-7 stories.

With a focus on providing amenity for students, comprising amenity spaces at entrances to courtyards and defined zones of interaction, external play areas and exercise routes, study areas and bookable spaces, dining and breakout spaces – Phase 1 is a pivotal section of the masterplan, designed to foster integration and connectivity to the main campus and to the existing residences of Merville, Belgrove and Roebuck.

Tadgh Corcoran of Head of UCD Estates noted “UCD wanted to create a new hub for student life centred around the campus residences – the design concept is incredibly strong and delivers accommodation and amenity that is accessible and visible to our large student population. The UCD Student Residences Phase 1 will be an exemplar for student life on campus. Reddy A+U’s student residences masterplan design greatly enhances our Campus offering by adding an intricate framework of spaces that will support and promote our growing student community and connection with the surrounding local residential area.”
