The development is within close proximity to the Citywest Shopping Centre and adjacent to the Fortunestown LUAS stop on the red line. The Challenge
This residential development is an urban intervention which utilises urban design principles to seamlessly ‘stitch’ the scheme within the existing community, through a well communicated pattern of a highly permeable development, connecting the site with the district centre and the Luas line.
The Story
Designed to provide a significant amount of strategically located and well-connected public and communal open spaces throughout the development, resulting in the provision of a ‘green link’ through the centre of the site. Passive surveillance through the careful arrangement of the buildings is achieved, offering the opportunity for a high level of interaction between residents.
The Outcome
The public realm is designed to ensure accessibility on equal terms for people of a range of ages and physical mobility notwithstanding the relative sloping nature of the site. The architectural design presents a welcoming and positive aspect to passers-by, connecting open spaces and avoiding unnecessary physical and visual barriers.
