The Story
Opened in 2015, Embassy Gardens boasts over 2,000 apartments and expanding retail spaces. Sitting adjacent to the new Embassy of the United States of America in London, it is one of the key elements of the regeneration of the wider Nine Elms area of London.
The Challenge
Before the opening of Darby’s Restaurant, Embassy Gardens lacked a mainstay dining option, making a restaurant and bar a welcome addition to this thriving residential area.
The Outcome
Our interiors team delivered the prestigious Darby’s restaurant + bar for renowned Irish chef, Robin Gill. Featuring a kitchen with open-fire cooking, an on-site bakery, and a central oyster bar surrounded by hanging foliage, it offers a unique dining experience. Ten storeys above, the restaurant links to the Sky Deck, which also includes a poolside barbecue.
The 1950s New York concept is reflected in the use of exposed steel, concrete and warm woods complemented by muted colours and high-quality furniture fabrics. A pleasing balance of materials is achieved by carefully combining raw and highly finished surfaces. The floor area is 95% naturally daylit and all seating areas have views to the exterior, creating a light filled space with a connection to its surroundings.
An exposed ceiling with dropped baffles addresses any acoustic issues, resulting in a calm and relaxing atmosphere. Exposing the ceiling also affords easy maintenance access to mechanical and electrical services.
