A new typology in student living on campus. Phase 1 of UCD's Student Residences Masterplan introduces 924 new bedspaces alongside the Student Hub (UCD Village), creating a cohesive environment that seamlessly integrates the main campus with the residential precinct. This connection is achieved through a network of interconnected landscaped pedestrian walkways and efficient transport routes.

The Challenge

With a focus on providing amenity for students, comprising amenity spaces at entrances to courtyards and defined zones of interaction, external play areas and exercise routes, study areas and bookable spaces, dining and breakout spaces – Phase 1 is a pivotal section of the masterplan, designed to foster integration and connectivity to the main campus and to the existing residences of Merville, Belgrove and Roebuck.

The Story

UCD sought a masterplan for student residences to increase on campus bedspaces to 5,000 and to knit the various existing residential clusters into a cohesive community for a connected student experience. UCD was granted permission for 2,178 residences and the Student Hub UCD Village, a scheme which strategically links the Main Campus to this new development through a series of interconnected landscaped pedestrian walkways and transport routes

The Outcome

UCD wanted to create a new hub for student life centred around the campus residences. The design concept is incredibly strong and delivers accommodation and amenity that is accessible and visible to our large student population. The Village is one of a kind and will be a fulcrum for public life.
