The Challenge
To complete the delivery of a new feature mall and atrium along with a new two-storey car park doubling the retail area of the centre creating additional retail units, restaurants, health and beauty mall and a medical centre. Significant drainage diversions, external landscaping, and the installation of new paths and paving were also part of the project. All construction was carried out while the centre remained fully operational.
The Story
This complex and dynamic project involved designing a new structure that wraps around the existing shopping centre. Its frame is made of structural steel with metal decking floors, while the car park used reinforced concrete columns and beams with precast panels spanning 16 metres. The exterior features a mix of techrete panels, rainscreen cladding and curtain walling. The project came to us in 2019 partially complete, we have since lead the reconfiguration of the former Debenhams store to accommodate a new basement unit as well as other works in the centre.
The Outcome
Frascati now hosts 36 retail brands, with around 90% being successful Irish-owned, family-run businesses. After six years of development, the new Frascati Centre in Blackrock is complete, offering a fresh shopping and dining experience, anchored by three standout flagships: Aldi, M&S, and Homestore and More.
