The Challenge
Extensive use of prefabrication and off-site construction reduced carbon footprint and accelerated the construction programme.
The Story
A number of protected structures were sensitively integrated as focal points of the development: the Union Workhouse, the old Railway Station and associated brick arcade walls and the Railway Goods Shed.
The Outcome
Commercial and cultural uses achieve an ‘18-hour life’ in the public areas of the development. New pedestrian-only public squares and streets are created and existing pedestrian routes enhanced.
