Jervis Shopping Centre Roof Level Extension
This development proposes a best in class commercial and residential mixed-use scheme as an integrated extension to the existing Jervis Shopping Centre. Compatible with the surrounding environment, the development will be of high quality and deliver an enhanced street activation.
- Location Jervis Street, Dublin.
- Scale Co-Living 8208 m2, Apartments 2390 m2, Office 2585 m2
The Challenge
To provide an integrated, mixed-use development by introducing additional residential and commercial elements into this key urban site.
The Story
New interventions at mid-level are of a larger scale than the existing buildings at street level. They are modern in their detailing but will still use existing material palette of brick and stone to unify the urban block. In contrast to the lower floors, the new commercial accommodation on the upper levels is conceived as a separate object which floats above the historic base development. The existing facades to Abbey Street and Jervis Street are redefined, serving to enclose one and two-bedroom apartments, with a new a co-living residential building facing Mary Street.
The Outcome
It has its own architectural language with a distinctive double skin façade, the outer layer composed of pleated geometric glass panels which are sculpturally interesting at the scale of the city. Outdoor private terraces are provided at roof level facing west, east and south to provide generous amenity space and an attractive setting for the new commercial units.
